Inspired by the timeless sounds of Holst and Vaughan Williams, Awaken is a vibrant flourish in 3/4 time that evokes the classic voice of the concert band. With soaring melodies and colorful scoring, composer Randall Standridge crafts an ideal concert or festival opener that is both elegant and energetic. This piece serves as the first movement of Aspects, a larger work commissioned by the American Band Directors Association, and can be performed on its own or as part of the full suite.
